Rebuilding from the rubble: from war-torn Syria to a new life in the UK
In 2013, Susan, an architect from Damascus, fled Syria with her two children after her husband was kidnapped during escalating conflict. Seeking safety, they returned to the UK, where she faced the challenges of starting anew. Her Syrian qualifications weren't recognized, and the path to continue as an architect was blocked. Determined, she pursued a Master's in BIM & Digital Construction at Salford University.
In 2016, Susan joined BAM's Highways Division. Transitioning into digital information management for civil engineering projects, she found a renewed sense of purpose. BAM's supportive environment allowed her to thrive, turning a job into a transformative opportunity.
