BAM Infra Nederland and SPIE Nederland to Carry Out Major Maintenance on the Zeeland Bridge

The construction consortium of BAM Infra Nederland and SPIE Nederland has been selected to renovate the movable section of the Zeeland Bridge - the bascule bridge - in autumn 2026, and to resurface the entire bridge with new asphalt. The works are necessary to ensure traffic safety and to extend the lifespan of this vital traffic artery. From September, the Province of Zeeland, BAM, and SPIE will work together in a construction team to jointly develop the detailed design for the project.

From End-of-Life to Future-Proof Bridge

Built in 1965, the Zeeland Bridge is the longest bridge in the Netherlands at over 5 kilometres. Now designated as a national monument, it is a crucial link for both road and maritime traffic.

The renovation of the movable parts will extend the bridge’s lifespan by another 30 years. To minimise disruption to traffic and the surrounding area, the opportunity is being taken to resurface the entire bridge during the same operation.
