Together with Heijmans, we have been awarded the major maintenance contract for the A2 and A6 motorways in the central Netherlands. This project marks an important step in ensuring the continued accessibility of one of the key transport corridors to and from Utrecht, as well as a vital route connecting the north of the country.
Commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat through a single tender comprising two lots, the contract covers the A2 between the Everdingen and Oudenrijn junctions heading towards Utrecht, and between Everdingen and Deil heading towards ’s-Hertogenbosch. It also includes the A6 between Lelystad and Lelystad-Noord, and between the Ketelbrug and Lemmer, in both directions.
Across both routes, we will replace 270,000 tonnes of asphalt, repair underlying damage, and carry out works on bridges, viaducts and culverts. In addition, we will level verges and replace or repair safety barriers at various locations. Preparatory works will begin at the end of 2025, with execution starting in spring 2026 and completion scheduled for the end of 2026.
‘The major maintenance of both the A2 and A6 is a substantial undertaking. We are confident in our collaboration with the BAM-Heijmans consortium to deliver this work, striking the right balance between minimising disruption for local communities and road users, and ensuring high-quality maintenance.’
— Arend Nagel, Project Manager, Rijkswaterstaat
Both projects are part of Rijkswaterstaat’s frontrunner initiative for sustainable road surfacing. This means that, as part of the maintenance works, we will use environmentally friendly asphalt mixtures that contribute to climate-neutral and circular construction practices. This approach aligns with BAM’s ambition to make the Netherlands’ infrastructure not only safer, but also more sustainable.
