Raulf, part of HBG Bau, has completed the new Tempodrom cultural centre, with its unusual design, near Potsdamer Platz in the heart of Berlin. The project was carried out in partnership with a formwork specialist and a firm of engineering consultants.
The concrete tent-like roof is a reference to the original Tempodrom that was established in 1980 by Irene Moessinger. This German nurse bought two circus tents with some money that had been left to her, creating an alternative cultural centre right next to the Berlin Wall, which gained world renown because of its circus-like ambience. The new Tempodrom has already opened its doors for pop concerts, dance extravaganzas and other shows.
