BAM’s Temple Quay House in Bristol Wins Award for Sustainable Redevelopment

BAM’s redevelopment of Temple Quay House in Bristol is setting a bold new standard for sustainable government infrastructure. Awarded a prestigious Silver Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) National Award, the project exemplifies how public-private collaboration can drive decarbonisation, circularity, and community impact.

Without a single demolition, over 13,100m² of high-quality office space was delivered—saving 400+ tons of CO₂ and diverting 45 tons of waste from landfill. This data-led approach to reuse and recycling is now a model for future public sector projects.

Beyond environmental gains, the project injected £7 million into the local supply chain, created 72 local jobs, and launched 23 apprenticeships, including a pioneering Bright Futures Academy focused on lighting, sustainability, and wellbeing.

Partnered with Collecteco, over 4,000m² of carpet tiles were donated to charities, schools, and churches—generating £48,250 in social value. BAM also donated £6,300 to community groups and £1,700 to foodbanks, further strengthening local support networks.

This transformation is more than a building upgrade—it’s a blueprint for a greener, fairer future. With enhanced energy performance and a connection to Bristol’s District Heat Network, Temple Quay House will soon host over 2,000 civil servants across 18 departments in a space that reflects the values of sustainability, innovation, and social responsibility.
