HBG Construction has been awarded a £6 million contract to provide further facilities at the City General Hospital in Stoke for North Staffordshire Hospital NHS Trust as well as a £5.9 million project to build a three-storey pharmacy building at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle for Newcastle-upon-Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust.
The project in Stoke will provide a two-storey theatre and ward extension, with associated critical care unit, and a three-storey undergraduate medical school, in partnership with the University of Keele. Work on the year-long project is set to start in mid-November.
The project in Newcastle involves the demolition of a two-storey building and the construction of the new building which will house a new hospital stores as well as the pharmacy. Work is set to start in February, with completion in December 2002.
The awards of these project represents further success for HBG Construction in the healthcare sector. The company is currently undertaking work at Wythenshawe Hospital, Hope Hospital in Salford, and Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool.
