The building located at Rijnstraat 8 in The Hague formerly served as the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment and was designed by Jan Hoogstad.
As the building no longer met current requirements in terms of sustainability, safety and the New Ways of Working, an extensive transformation was required. Commissioned by the Central Government Real Estate Agency, BAM and its partners, working together as the MTC PoortCentraal b.v. consortium, transformed Rijnstraat 8 into flexible, contemporary government office space.
The new Rijnstraat 8 was designed by the OMA firm of architects, which worked with Jan Hoogstad to develop an all-encompassing concept for further enhancing the architectonic qualities of the original construction. This resulted in a modern, comfortable working environment which has a close relationship with the urban area it finds itself in, right next to the city’s main railway station, Den Haag Centraal.
