Bajes neighbourhood

The site of the former Bijlmerbajes prison complex is being put to new use, with the health and happiness of its residents and users given primary consideration. Working with other parties, BAM is developing a completely new, green, low-traffic urban district in the area.

A large proportion of the 1,350 homes on the site is made up of social housing, and there will be space for artists, catering establishments and a health centre. Vegetable gardens, children’s play areas, various water features and green spaces for recreation purposes will bring about plenty of social interaction. Parking will be in underground spaces, and there will be good connections with the public transport network. So, whether people live in, work in or visit the Bajes neighbourhood, it will always prove that a well-designed urban area can result in a healthy living environment and contented residents and users.
