Hemel Hempstead, 21 June 2013 - BAM Construction helped renowned sculpture artist Maurice Blik – who survived Bergen-Belsen as a boy and who holds a dual British/Dutch passport – to unveil his specially commissioned work at the Kings Cross development known as Regent Quarter. The two part piece ‘About Face’ features two opposing faces; a bronzed beaten male face gazing up at a gold-leaf female. The lighter face weighs 450 kg and was clamped through the wall onto the stairwell using bespoke fixings.
The piece is part of The Regent Quarter Unit Trust’s planning obligation to provide public art for the £22 million Block D development, where it was installed in the courtyard at its heart. A Victorian stable-block (where hackney carriage horses were kept) was refurbished into office space, and BAM has built new flats and other office space. BAM continues to work on the final section, valued at around £9 million, and scheduled for completion in early 2014.
