HBG Construction Ltd has been awarded a £25 million contract on behalf of the University of Glasgow to build two large research centre buildings adjacent to the Wolfson Medical School in Glasgow.
This contract brings the total number of universities in the UK at which HBG has undertaken projects in the last 12 months to 20, representing a total contract value exceeding £187 million. HBG is also extremely active in the schools and colleges education sectors, both conventionally procured and through PFI projects.
The larger Biomedical Building to be constructed at the University of Glasgow comprises five main levels and a basement. The Cardiovascular Building will have a partial basement, four main floor levels and a roof level plantroom. The buildings are to be linked at basement level three/four. The superstructures will generally comprise insitu reinforced concrete columns and flat slabs.

The architect for the project is Boswell Mitchell & Johnston and the quantity surveyor is Doig & Smith, M&E Services – Hulley & Kirkwood and Halcrow Civil & Structural Engineering.
