Contractors in Devon and Cornwall sought as rising workloads prompt BAM to expand supply chain

Exeter, 25 March 2015 - Firms in Cornwall and Devon are being invited to tap into a rising workload for one of the West Country’s largest contractors. BAM Construction – the company behind the Living Systems Building for Exeter University, Newton Abbott’s new UTC, and Cornwall Council’s new offices in Bodmin – has also just secured a place on the new Southern Construction Framework. It is now seeking to hear from companies across the whole Cornwall and Devon regions providing services such as bricklaying, groundworks, carpentry, metalworks, plastering, drylining, landscaping, flooring, electrical, joinery, windows, and glazing, among others.

Graham Kingdon, the Exeter-based construction director for BAM, says: ‘BAM is taking the chance to invite new firms to work with us as our portfolio across Devon and Cornwall continues to expand. There isn’t an area we don’t build in across the West Country. So we are encouraging firms in this part of the country to come and meet us and tell us what they can do.’

The company has arranged two events for local companies to attend. On 15 April, they will be hosting an event at Truro Golf Club, Treliske. And on 6 May the company will be hosting another at Exeter Racecourse.

In the past four years BAM has handed over projects worth over £151 million in the two counties alone. Mr Kingdon added: ‘There are very encouraging signs across all our sectors – health, education, offices, leisure and retail – that BAM will be busy for some time. Clients are recognising that the strength of our local suppliers and knowledge is a key factor in how we deliver the quality that BAM is known for.’

BAM is one of the founders of the new South West Shared Apprenticeship Scheme so it is keen to hear from firms who wish to be involved. Mr Kingdon concluded: This is a win-win situation. As we create more state of the art buildings across the West Country, our approach has always been to focus on bringing local economic benefits as a consequence. That’s a good model for how business in Britain should work.’
