At Schiphol North, a new eye-catcher has recently been introduced: a fully electric 25-tonne Caterpillar crawler excavator. BAM is using this silent powerhouse to build the structure on which the PFAS soil remediation plant will later be constructed.
The use of this crane demonstrates how we put our Building a sustainable tomorrow strategy into practice. This is how we make our construction sites emission-free, from equipment to logistics. Lower emissions mean not only reduced global warming, but also cleaner air and less noise – benefitting travellers, local residents, and colleagues alike.
This innovation is the result of collaboration between BAM, Baars and Schiphol. By choosing electric equipment together, we are gradually making our fleet greener while gaining valuable experience for future projects.
Clint van Doorn, Project Manager at BAM Infra Nederland: “With this new electric excavator we prove that large-scale earthworks can be both quieter and cleaner. This is how we bring our sustainability strategy and partnership with Schiphol to life. After all, sustainability is something we achieve together.”
BAM manages, maintains and renews roads, greenery, underground infrastructure and technical installations. With projects such as the new bus station and a high-voltage substation, we ensure reliability and sustainable development of the airport.
