BAM Energy & Water has signed a 12-year cooperation agreement with network operator Enexis and Waterleiding Maatschappij Limburg (WML) for the large-scale expansion and reinforcement of the electricity and water supply network in Limburg. This long-term partnership marks an important step in accelerating the energy transition and making the underground infrastructure in the region more sustainable. The contract value is approximately €600 million.
As part of Enexis' strategic programme – known as the neighbourhood approach – BAM will start renovating and upgrading the electricity grid in Limburg area by area at the end of 2025. By deploying efficient and sustainable solutions, BAM is helping to increase grid capacity, which is essential for meeting the growing demand for electricity from sources such as electric mobility, heat pumps and solar panels, and for accelerating the energy transition.
As a key player in the Dutch energy transition, BAM is bringing its expertise and innovative strength to bear to realise this ambition. As part of its 'Building a sustainable tomorrow' strategy, BAM is strongly committed to sustainable infrastructure and innovative solutions. BAM focuses on realising energy-efficient buildings, facilitating renewable energy projects and optimising energy supply networks.
In addition to electrification, the reliability of the drinking water supply also plays a crucial role in the liveability of the region. WML is working with BAM to make the water supply network future-proof, with a focus on efficiency and minimal disruption for residents. In executing the contract, BAM cleverly combines the construction and renewal of energy and water infrastructure, creating synergy in planning, execution and impact.
The decision by Enexis and WML to enter into a 12-year agreement enables BAM to invest structurally in craftsmanship, innovation and regional employment. BAM will actively contribute to the recruitment, training and development of technical personnel in Limburg, thereby strengthening its implementation capacity.
"The energy transition and making our infrastructure more sustainable require vision, decisiveness and cooperation," says Rolf te Velde, CEO of BAM Energy & Water. "With this agreement, we are joining forces with Enexis and WML to prepare Limburg for the future. BAM is proud to contribute as a partner to a robust and sustainable network that supports the region's growth ambitions."
