Rotterdam and BAM Sign First Socio-Economic Impact Deal

Over the coming years, Hofplein will be transformed into a green city square, with more space for pedestrians and cyclists. BAM has been awarded the contract and, as part of this, has signed the first Socio-Economic Impact Deal (SEID) with the Municipality of Rotterdam.

This deal represents a unique partnership in the delivery of major urban projects, with significant investment in employment and the local economy. It will lead to the creation of more jobs in the infrastructure and (water) construction sectors, increased employment opportunities for pupils from Rotterdam’s special education (practical and pre-vocational secondary education), and more procurement from local entrepreneurs and suppliers. On Friday 11 July, the agreement was formally signed by Alderman Tim Versnel and Jil Ligterink, Director at BAM Infra Nederland.

Jil Ligterink, Director at BAM Infra Nederland: ‘‘With this deal, we’re not only building a greener Hofplein, but also creating sustainable opportunities for the people of Rotterdam. By working together with schools and local businesses, we’re making our impact both tangible and future-proof. At BAM, craftsmanship and social responsibility go hand in hand. This is how we give major urban projects true local meaning — for the city and its people.’
