On 19 June 2025, Province of Groningen and BAM gave the go-ahead for the construction of support centre Roodehaan in Groningen. Gedeputeerde Gouke Moes and Heiko Pruntel of BAM symbolically struck the first pile, under the watchful eye of future users. Construction will run until mid-July 2026.
In the new support centre, provincial employees will deal with the maintenance of provincial roads, waterways and cycle paths. Currently, the province works from four different support centres in Groningen. With the construction of a new central support centre on the Roodehaan industrial estate, there will soon be one location for these activities. Rijkswaterstaat will also rent a number of rooms in the new support centre.
BAM Bouw en Techniek - Integrale Projecten Noord, together with BDG Architecten, BAM Advies & Engineering, BAM Infra Nederland and DGMR, is responsible for both the architectural, installation and site design, with functionality being number one. In addition, nature inclusiveness is an important pillar. Groningen nature is integrated around the building design, with microclimates, native planting and facilities for animals and insects.
Now that the first pile has been driven, marking the first milestone, construction will officially start. BAM is realising the entire office, workshop and salt warehouse. This includes a green sedum roof (a green roof overgrown with succulents) on the office building and solar panels on the roofs of the other buildings. A heat and cold storage system will store hot and cold water in various underground wells.
