BAM has been selected as construction partner for the construction of approximately 1,000 homes in the eastern Netherlands. This contract is part of Bouwstroom Oost, a collaboration between five housing corporations that are jointly committed to building affordable and sustainable homes more quickly.
BAM will develop the homes as concept homes: standardised homes based on a reference model. This ensures an efficient construction process, lower costs and a high degree of sustainability. BAM's stacked housing concept allows more homes to be built in less space, while maintaining living comfort and quality.
The selection of BAM followed a tender with high sustainability criteria, based on the New Normal standard (this link is only available in Dutch). These included environmental performance, circular use of materials, detachability and healthiness of materials. Ease of maintenance and living quality also played a role.
By opting for a standardised, conceptual construction process and a stacked housing concept, BAM is transforming traditional housing construction into a sustainable, scalable and future-proof model. Moreover, BAM is also contributing to reducing the housing shortage in the region through this approach. The first homes will be built by the end of 2025. A total of 2,500 homes are to be built through Bouwstroom Oost.
This collaboration shows how innovation, standardisation and social commitment go hand in hand in building a sustainable future.
