BAM has started work to transform accessibility at Hither Green station in London - making travel easier, quicker and more inclusive for thousands of people every day.
The main construction work is delivered by BAM on behalf of Network Rail and the South East Alliance, following £28 million of Department for Transport funding through its Access for All programme.
Once complete, passengers will benefit from step-free access across all six platforms, with a new footbridge, four 16-person lifts and staircases. Two new accessible entrances will also be built on Fernbrook Road and Springbank Road, directly connected to the new bridge.
The upgrade will remove the need for passengers with accessibility requirements to travel via central London just to change trains – reducing time, inconvenience and reliance on taxis or buses. It will also make every day journeys easier for parents with buggies, cyclists and anyone travelling with luggage.
