Enexis has selected BAM Infra Nederland for the structural construction of substations in the north and south of the Netherlands. This new multi-year framework agreement builds on the successful collaboration of recent years, during which we jointly delivered and expanded several stations with Enexis. Our work contributes to the expansion and modernisation of the Dutch electricity grid, ensuring a reliable energy supply. The first projects are already in preparation, with construction scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2026.
Our scope includes the construction of new substations and the extension of existing ones at Enexis sites in Groningen, Overijssel, Drenthe, North Brabant and Limburg. These stations provide a crucial conversion from high voltage on TenneT’s national grid to medium voltage on Enexis’s regional network. This link ensures that the additional capacity created by strengthening and expanding the national grid can be made available for new solar and wind projects, businesses and millions of households across the five provinces. Substations therefore play a key role in increasing energy capacity and reducing grid congestion in the Netherlands.
Sustainability
We are refining the use of prefabricated foundations and timber construction, and working with partners to explore the application of more sustainable GROENR concrete. By further integrating digitalisation and industrialisation with the standardised stations already developed by Enexis, we achieve shorter construction times, lower emissions and minimal disruption to the surrounding area. This approach aligns seamlessly with BAM’s strategy of Building a sustainable tomorrow.
‘With this award, together with Enexis and our partners, we are taking the next step towards future-proofing the Dutch energy grid. By continuing to innovate, grow and collaborate closely, we ensure a reliable energy supply for millions of households.’
