Schiphol, the Netherlands, 29 January 2019 - Schiphol has signed long-term contracts with BAM, Heijmans and VolkerWessels. The construction companies can carry out works at Schiphol for a maximum period of nine years with a total estimated value of €2.5 to €3.5 billion over this period. The majority of the works are for maintaining and investing in existing infrastructure at the airport.
BAM, Heijmans and VolkerWessels were preferred candidates for various parts of the tender since August 2018, as listed below, following a European tender:
In recent months, the plans have been developed and coordinated with Schiphol. This completes the tender and all parties have signed the agreements. The contracts start on 1 April 2019.
BAM is entering a three-year performance contract with Schiphol for each plot intending to also award the two consecutive three-year terms under the contract. In addition, the majority of all construction projects that Schiphol initiates within the awarded plots, will be realised with BAM. The indicative annual turnover for BAM is approximately €100 million. Based on the contract duration of nine years, the total turnover for BAM could amount to approximately €900 million.
In lot 3 (Landside infrastructure), BAM Infra Asset Management, in collaboration with BAM Infra Region Northwest, is responsible for the management, maintenance and new construction of all roads, bridges and viaducts, parking lots and associated infrastructure. 'Our project includes one million square meters of asphalt pavement, more than 4,500 signs and 30,000 m2 of road marking, 230 hectares green area and some 8,000 tanks and wells', says asset manager Jan Willem Breemhaar.
BAM Infra Energie & Water is responsible for the optimal condition and availability of the underground infrastructure at Schiphol in lot 4. This includes high and low voltage cables, traffic control installations, water and gas pipelines and de-icing installations. Bas Prins, operations manager Schiphol at BAM Infra Energie & Water: 'Within this new best-value contract, we can continue our presence at Schiphol. For the past eight years we were already responsible for piping. This means that we continue our successful collaboration with co-maker Révé for all work on the pumping stations.'
BAM Bouw en Techniek will take care of the integral management and maintenance of Terminal 3 and Schiphol Plaza with a area of approximately 800,000 m2 of floor space as of 1 April. The assignment within plot 5b also includes renovation and new construction projects to make the airport more sustainable and cost-efficient. BAM’s use of digital innovations will enable Schiphol to manage its assets better. 'With reliable asset data and professional asset management, we ensure that Schiphol can deliver its ambitions,' says Wouter Blom, director of BAM Bouw and Techniek Schiphol.
Schiphol and BAM are striving for a collaboration based on a relational contract. The construction companies have committed themselves to objectives in the field of ââsustainability, optimal asset yield, excellent organisation, innovation and digitisation. In this way they contribute to Schiphol's ambition to be Europe's preferred airport.
Sustainability
The construction companies will deliver their activities with lower carbon emissions than they do now, for example, by using electrical equipment, re-using original building materials locally and reducing the energy consumption in the terminals.
Optimum asset performance
Thanks to smarter maintenance and life cycle costing, airport processes are optimally supported. This will contribute to as few delays as possible at competitive costs.
Excellent organisation
The long-term agreements make it possible to invest mutually in the collaboration.
Innovation and digital
By using digital means, information is available in real time enabling Schiphol to carry out maintenance works at the moment when they are required. The knowledge networks of Schiphol and the construction companies are also being integrated to promote innovation. This ensures even better service to airlines and travelers.
