Local firms recognised for quality and safety by one of UK’s largest contractors

Camberley, 3 June 2015 - One of the UK’s leading contractors has singled out several companies in the North West in its regional supply chain awards. BAM Construction – based in Salford - is behind signature structures such as the new National Graphene Institute, Manchester City’s Football Academy, and the Co-Operative Group HQ. Last week, at Manchester United, the firm handed out medals to firms for environmental and health and safety performance, quality, innovation, for subcontract manager of the year and overall regional contractor of the year.

Regional Director Steve Byrne said: ‘BAM is behind some of the UK’s most impressive and cutting edge buildings. How we  work with our  partners is extremely important to delivering the quality that our clients have come to expect. That’s why we like to recognise exceptional performance. We try to ensure our projects use the skills and materials from the communities around them, so it is great for me to present awards to firms across our region.’

Gold winners included Keith Walton Ltd from Burnley, Lancashire (for environment, health and safety), Stockport-based Sound Interiors Ltd (quality), Balfour Beatty Engineering Services which has a UK-wide presence (for innovation), and to Leeds-based Metallic Fabrications (overall winner).

Howard Winter, Managing Director of Sound Interiors, said: ‘It is always a pleasure to be recognised for the work we have completed with BAM, the collaborative relationship we share reflects in the positive results on site, and we hope to strengthen our relationship further with a true partner in construction.’

Other firms to win silver or bronze awards included Oldham’s Allied Scaffolding, Flintshire’s Kingspan Ltd, St Helen’s groundworks firm Murraywood Construction, Stockport’s Active Flooring Ltd and Ashton under Lyme’s TMJ Joinery Ltd.

Mr Byrne added: ‘We have some fantastic people in our business and some really excellent firms in our supply chain. Clients should see the quality we bring to our work whether it is a one million pound project or a one hundred million pound development.’

BAM recently won a £71 million office development known as One Spinningfields for Allied London, and in Liverpool is delivering the Materials Innovation Factory for Liverpool University and Aintree Hospital’s new Trauma Centre. It also develops property and manages the facilities in many of the buildings it creates. It was the developer and contractor behind St Peter’s Square Stockport and the Metro building in Manchester.
