BAM completes east London library and turns to phase II
Hemel Hempstead, 22 April 2014 - A BAM-built library and customer service centre has opened in east London as the team continues the scheme.
BAM Construction’s London team worked with architects Rick Mather to create the three-storey campus for Newham Council. Newham mayor Sir Robin Wales officially opened the building in February. The team is now working on a second phase of the East Ham Civic Campus scheme, refurbishing Grade 2* listed buildings including East Ham Town Hall.
An existing disused technical college will also be refurbished and turned into a 6th Form College. BAM worked with the council’s design team and English Heritage to get planning approval for the alteration work to the listed buildings.
Construction director Andy Mason said: ‘BAM is delighted to have completed this landmark building for Newham Council. A great deal of work was required from all parties to make this scheme happen.
We have not let up on site, however, and are busy creating more excellent facilities for council staff and local residents.’
BAM has worked across London on major schemes including several at King’s Cross Central, Chobham Academy (used in the Olympics), a clinical wing for Great Ormond Street Hospital and a UTC (University Technical College) in Hackney.
