First ship at fuel jetty Sierra Leona

Bunnik, the Netherlands, 27 March 2013 – The bulk carrier Gypsum Integrity (197 metres long and sailing under Bermuda flag) was the first ship that has been berthed at the new fuel unloading and layover facility in Pepel, Sierra Leone. The jetty has been built by BAM International and joint venture partner Stefanutti Stocks for African Minerals Ltd in only four months.

The project comprised the construction of five mooring dolphins, four breasting dolphins with fenders, a concrete platform, 220-metre walkways and a 160-metre access bridge. Construction of the jetty formed part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the client’s loading facility for iron ore. Earlier, BAM completed another part of this rehabilitation, which comprised the renovation of an existing iron ore export jetty, the construction of two mooring dolphins and 37 new navigation aid structures in the Sierra Leone river.
