BAM wins contract for Eindhoven University of Technology departmental building
Bunnik, The Netherlands, 2 November 2012 – On 2 November BAM Utiliteitsbouw bv was awarded the contract by the Eindhoven University of Technology for the construction of a new building for the Departments of Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering (Project 2). The engineer-and-build contract has a value of around €40 million.
Project 2 forms part of the university’s Campus 2020 building plan, which consists of four projects. The aim of Campus 2020 is to concentrate all the departments and student facilities around a long and car-free ‘green strip’. The new departmental building will be situated on the site of the current ‘N-laag’ building.
The new building has been designed by Architectuurstudio Herman Hertzberger in Amsterdam and will include offices, classrooms and laboratories, spread across eleven storeys and a basement. The total gross floor area will be 26,000 m².
BAM Utiliteitsbouw won the contract through a European tendering procedure, because its application offered the best value for money. The award criteria were the price, sustainability, the quality of the process and the plan by which the project would be carried out. BAM Utiliteitsbouw is responsible for making the project run as optimally as possible and for advancing the definitive design to a design that is ready for implementation, in terms of the building and fitting work. Work involving the mechanical and electrical services will be performed by BAM Techniek.
The building work will start in early 2013 and the project is expected to be completed by late 2014.
