Bunnik, 28 June 2010 - The Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat) has selected BAM as 'preferred bidder' for the widening of the thirty kilometre long section of the A12 motorway between Utrecht-Lunetten and Veenendaal. This involves a public-private partnership in which BAM is responsible for design, construction, financing and maintenance of the section over a period of twenty years. The contract value is around €260 million.
The financial close of the contract is expected to take place in September 2010. In February 2011, BAM will start work on widening the road. This will take a little over eighteen months, which is considerably shorter than Rijkswaterstaat had expected. As such, BAM will be able to significantly reduce the impact on road users.
The project comprises the construction of a third lane in both directions and the construction and modification of viaducts and traffic installations. The project is being executed by several operating companies of Royal BAM Group, i.e. BAM PPP, BAM Wegen, BAM Civiel, BAM Infratechniek and BAM Infraconsult.
