Celtic Roads Group, which includes BAM’s Irish operating company Ascon, has been awarded the contract for design, build, finance, operate and maintenance of the Dundalk Western Bypass, north of Dublin. The contract value amounts to €170 million, with a share in excess of €55 million for Ascon. This is the third major infrastructural PPP-project in which Royal BAM Group is involved. Previous projects were the A59 near Rosmalen and the N31 in Friesland.
The Dundalk Western Bypass is part of the M1 motorway between Dublin and the border of Northern Ireland and on to Belfast. The contract provides for the construction of an eleven kilometre section of motorway, in the vicinity of Dundalk, including the construction of twelve over- and underbridges as well as a railway overbridge. In addition, link roads will be constructed with a total length of seven kilometres.
The consortium is also responsible for the collection of tolls and the maintenance of the motorway for a length of 53 kilometres. The contract period applies for a period of thirty years.
Celtic Roads Group comprises, next to Ascon, of National Toll Roads and Grupo Dragados. This Spanish company is also involved in the N31 project.
