There are prestigious projects aplenty in Dubai – hotels, towering office buildings, golf courses and stadiums – pomp and circumstance wherever you look. But only one of those projects is visible from the moon: Palm Island. Ballast Ham Dredging is working in joint venture with Van Oord ACZ on this unique land reclamation project.
Man-made islands in the shape of a palm tree will soon provide space for twelve apartment complexes, theme parks, two marinas, forty hotels and 2,600 luxury villas built in either Caribbean, Italian or Arabic style. The small palaces – with price tickets ranging from half a million to one-and-a-half million euros – were all sold within a few weeks. Palm Island lengthens the Dubai coastline by sixty kilometres. In view of the enormous waiting list for the villas, Property Developer The Palm has already placed an order with third parties for the construction of a second, identical project a few tens of kilometres to the north along the coast. Completion date for The Palm is 8 August 2003.
