Rijswijk / Dublin – Ascon Ltd [the Irish civil engineering company of the European construction group HBG] has been awarded the contract for the construction of the last phase of the C-Ring Motorway around Dublin, named the South Eastern Motorway.
The contract value of the project amounts to €127 million. Clients are Dun Laoghaire and Rathdown County Council. The project connects to the 7 kilometre long Southern Cross section of the C-Ring that Ascon handed over earlier this year.
The new section, south of the Irish capital, involves the construction of 9,25 kilometre 2x2 lane motorway linking the C-Ring to the M11 at Shankill. The project also includes the construction of 1,2 kilometre all purpose dual carriageway, 3 kilometre two lane interchange parallel link roads, 4 interchanges, the construction of 14 bridges and the upgrading of 7,5 kilometre local road network. The project will be completed mid 2005.
Ascon is currently also working on the construction of a section of the new motorway M1, north of Dublin, towards the North Irish border. The 6.5 kilometer long road between Dublin Airport and Lissenhall is being built in joint venture with Nuttall, the British civil engineering company of HBG. The contract value of this project, which will be handed over mid 2003, amounts to €76 million.
