Interbeton wins marine contract for extension fertiliser production complex in Qatar

Rijswijk, the Netherlands – Interbeton bv – the group company of HBG, Hollandsche Beton Groep nv, operating outside Western Europe – has been awarded the contract for the extension of a jetty and the realisation of a cool water installation for new production facilities of the Qatar Fertiliser Company [QAFCO] in the city of Mesaieed, approximately forty kilometres south of Doha. The contract value amounts to US$ 20 million.

The German company Krupp Uhde has won the main EPC-contract for the new line of ammonia and granular urea production. Interbeton will be responsible for engineering, procurement and construction of all marine works to the plant. These comprise of a berth extension of a jetty, facilitation loading of 45,000 DWT ammonia tankers and 40,000 DWT urea tankers, as well as construction of a complete seawater cooling system with seawater offshore intake, pumping station and offshore outfall to cover the cooling requirements of the new complex.

In 1996, Interbeton successfully completed the marine works for the QAFCO III extension. Like in the previous project, HBG's marine engineering consultant DMC [Delta Marine Consultants bv] will be responsible for the design and engineering works.

Interbeton will start construction activities in February 2002. The construction period will be 14 months.
