HBG Construction has started work on a seven storey hotel in the centre of Glasgow.
The £20 million design and build contract has been awarded to HBG by Marylebone Warwick Balfour Group and the new hotel will be operated on their behalf by Radisson SAS.
The hotel will incorporate 246 bedrooms, restaurants, coffee shop and bar. The basement will provide a large area of lettable space for occupation by a separate tenant who will operate a leisure facility.
The main elevation to Argyle Street provides a pre-patinated copper clad six storey high frontage. Behind the foyer at first floor level is a large flexible function space, which is raised to allow for an equivalent area of retail space on the second floor.
The 246 bedrooms will have en-suite facilities and there is to be a 'Presidential Suite'. Each of the bedroom floors is themed to offer variety to guests staying at the hotel, e.g. one floor is themed 'high tech' and incorporates furniture and fittings of that style.
The project team includes Murray & Dunlop as architects, Blyth & Blyth as structural and services engineers and Thomas & Adamson as employers’ agent and quantity surveyor.
The new hotel is scheduled to open in 2002.
