Tower crane returns

Tower crane returns

At the end of April a 200-tonne mobile crane was used to erect a 42 metre high saddle tower crane at HBG Construction’s site at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London.

The green and orange tower crane, which features a 40 metre boom, represents a happy return for HBG since the company undertook a 58 million euro contract at Great Ormond Street Hospital in the early 1990s. The present contract, started in November 2002, is valued at €40.5 million and will provide an extension to the existing hospital, comprising basement, lower ground, upper ground and four further floors. When completed in January 2005, the scheme will provide a range of new facilities including two operating theatres, departments of biomedical engineering and psychological medicine, a medical workshop, a medical day-care unit and inpatient/outpatient accommodation.
