Today SKS Power Sdn Bhd awarded the contract for the land reclamation and soil improvement for the construction of a 3 * 700 MWatt power plant in Johor, Malaysia, to IMW Dredging.
Ballast Ham Dredging is a 49% shareholder in IMW Dredging. The total contract value amounts to EUR 37 million. The project is located directly opposite the Port of Tanjung Pelepas Phase II project (EUR 275 million) which was awarded to the joint venture of Ballast Ham Dredging and IMW last year. The Johor project is scheduled for completion on 1 December 2004.
The project consists of 70 hectare of land reclamation on top of a soft subsoil layer of 25 metres thick and the dredging of an access to the loading jetty to a depth of –18 metres. Installing vertical drainage reduces the period needed for subsoil consolidation and thus also the construction period considerably.
IMW Dredging will deploy trailing suction hopper dredger HAM 310 and a variety of vertical drainage rigs.
