Rohcon to build new Cork Airport
The contract for the construction of the new terminal at Cork Airport, was signed Tuesday, 3 June by Aer Rianta Chairman Noel Hanlon and Rohcon’s MD Brendan Barrett.
Minister Micheál Martin represented the Government at the signing ceremony. This significant capital investment by Aer Rianta, valued at €130 million will increase the existing terminal capacity from 1.1 million to 3 million passengers per annum.
The project comprises construction of a new terminal building, the installation of 3 passenger air bridges and new baggage handling systems. A new fire station, other ancillary buildings and a multi storey 600 space short term car park is also provided for. Additionally, 3,250 surface car spaces, new access roads, landscaping and signage is included.
Jacobs Engineering designed the new terminal which will utilise glass, steel and timber materials in a quality design. This maximises the effects of light and space under a single-span curved roof structure. The building is designed to manage a capacity of up to five million passengers per annum over time, with the potential addition of a new pier and side extensions when required.
The project is scheduled for completion in September of 2005.
