Utrecht, the Netherlands, 3 June 2013 - ProRail has awarded the U-centRaal joint venture, consisting of BAM Rail and VolkerRail, the contract for the improvement of the flow of trains around the Utrecht Centraal station. The project focuses specifically on the expansion of the reliability of the railway, less malfunctions and space for more trains. The engagement fee amounts to over € 140 million. U-centRaal will complete this project in 2016.
As part of the ‘Programme High Frequent Rail’, in Utrecht Centraal station the distance between signals will be reduced in order that trains can operate closer to each other and the next train can be ready at the platform quicker. These measures to the infrastructure ensure that the flow as well as the reliability of the railway for the traveller is improved.
