Bunnik, the Netherlands, 28 April 2016 - Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau, the German tunnel specialist of Royal BAM Group, has been awarded the contract for the construction of a subway tunnel in Frankfurt. The two-kilometre double-track tunnel will be constructed in the city centre, in the new Gateway Gardens district. The contract value is approximately €220 million.
The client is rail infrastructure manager DB Netz AG. The cut and cover tunnel is approximately eleven metres wide and six metres high. Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau will move approximately 900,000 cbm of land and will process 180,000 cbm of concrete. The Gateway Gardens Tunnel will be operational at the end of 2019.
Gateway Gardens is a new development located next to Frankfurt Airport. The 35-hectare area offers offices, service areas, hotels, conference and exhibition spaces complete with leisure, restaurant and retail facilities emerging around a central park. Occupiers benefit from Gateway Gardens’ central location and its excellent transportation connections by plane, train and car.
Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau is currently involved in the construction of the 440-metre long Europagarten Tunnel in Frankfurt, which will be completed in August 2016.
