A Cathedral job
HBG Construction has won a three million-euro contract to carry out the Plaza Works at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King in Liverpool. The project is scheduled for completion in August 2003.
The work has already started and involves design and construction of new ceremonial cathedral steps and civic space, as well as the construction of a single storey visitors’ centre. Extensive landscaping will also be carried out.
The Roman Catholic cathedral, designed by Sir Frederick Gibberd, was consecrated in May 1967 and has recently been refurbished. This latest project forms part of the development and upgrade of the surrounding city centre area.
