BAM divests Schakel & Schrale to support the company's next phase of growth

Royal BAM Group has reached an agreement to divest Schakel & Schrale, its specialist heritage restoration business, to Arundo Beheer B.V.

As part of Arundo Beheer B.V., Schakel & Schrale will join a group of businesses focused, amongst others, on the restoration and preservation of heritage assets. The combination brings together complementary expertise and creates opportunities to further strengthen Schakel & Schrale’s position in the heritage restoration market while ensuring continuity for clients and employees.

The transaction aligns with BAM’s strategic focus within construction and property development activities in the Netherlands on the scalable and repeatable delivery of new homes and assets, sustainable delivery of non-residential buildings, as well as renovation and renewal activities. Schakel & Schrale has operated as an independent company within BAM’s Netherlands division. BAM is convinced that Schakel & Schrale’s specialist heritage restoration activities will be better positioned within a group dedicated to this market, enabling the company to further grow and accelerate its development.

Schakel & Schrale traces its roots back to 1893 and has been part of BAM since 1978. Over more than a century, the company has developed into a well-recognised specialist in the restoration, renovation and repurposing of historic and listed buildings across the Netherlands. Schakel & Schrale is expected to achieve revenue of approximately €18 million in 2026. The company employs approximately 40 people and combines traditional craftsmanship with modern expertise in sustainability and building technology.

Ruud Joosten, CEO Royal BAM Group:

‘We believe we have found the right owner for Schakel & Schrale, where its specialist expertise and craftsmanship are well aligned with a group of companies dedicated to heritage restoration, providing a strong basis for Schakel & Schrale and its people to further develop and grow.’

Frans van der Kleij, CEO of Arundo Beheer B.V.:

‘Schakel & Schrale is a highly respected specialist with a strong reputation and an impressive track record in heritage restoration. We have known the business for many years and are confident that, as part of our group, Schakel & Schrale can build on these strong foundations and accelerate its growth. We look forward to welcoming the team and building on Schakel & Schrale’s strengths together to preserve and restore historic buildings for future generations.’

The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to customary closing conditions. Financial details will not be disclosed.
