Over the coming year, we will be constructing several electricity distribution hubs in the northern and southern regions of the Netherlands. These compact nodes distribute electricity over long distances and reinforce the energy grid. The hubs can be compared to power strips, connecting other electricity stations. This pilot project is being carried out on behalf of Enexis. The hubs are essential for a reliable and future-proof energy supply. Preparations are already underway, and construction at the first location—Plasmolen in North Limburg—is expected to begin in autumn 2025.
With this pilot, Enexis is testing a new approach: appointing a single main contractor to coordinate both the civil and technical aspects of the project. This means fewer intermediaries, faster execution, and less pressure on Enexis’ internal organisation. At BAM, we bring together multiple disciplines in one integrated approach. We handle the design and construction of the foundation, set up the site, install the prefabricated building, lay cables and pipelines, connect the installations, and take care of the site layout. Organising everything under one roof makes the process clear and efficient, enabling Enexis to deliver more projects with fewer internal resources.
‘This pilot marks an important step in accelerating and simplifying the energy transition. By integrating design, construction and installation, we create clarity, minimise disruption and deliver faster. Together with Enexis, we are preparing the energy grid for the future.’
