Bunnik, the Netherlands, 26 November 2020 – The municipality of The Hague and BAM have agreed to discontinue the activities of BAM’s asphalt plant in The Hague (Haagse Asfaltcentrale or HAC), which is operated by BAM Infra on the Binckhorst industrial estate (adjacent to the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg). HAC will end the production of asphalt at this location by 31 December 2021.
The Hague city council has approved a proposal from the municipal authorities for a residential impulse in and around the Binckhorst, which will be enabled by this agreement. BAM will receive a fee for terminating the activities; the parties have agreed not to disclose the amount at stake. Area developer AM (part of Royal BAM Group) has signed a letter of intent with the municipality also. The parties intend to work together to deliver a plan for the development of at least 400 homes and the work-related functions in the area. This is envisaged from 2025 onwards, provided the desired further development of the Binckhorst takes shape.
HAC has been located on Binckhorst since 1959, right next to the A12 motorway and near the A4. The plant produces a wide variety of high-quality asphalt products - including various sustainable mixtures, such as Low Energy Asphalt Concrete (LEAB) - that are used in road works in the province of South Holland. HAC has modern and extensive production and storage facilities. Specialisms are coloured asphalt and shell asphalt.
BAM is in consultation with Heijmans to jointly continue the asphalt production activities of both companies. BAM will not include HAC in this proposed collaboration.
