Bunnik, the Netherlands, 30 July 2018 – EDGE Technologies, a Dutch real estate technology company, has awarded the contract for the construction of EDGE Grand Central – a high-tech office building located northwest of Berlin Central Station, to BAM Deutschland, the German non-residential operating company of Royal BAM Group nv.
EDGE Grand Central in Berlin is the second project in EDGE Technologies’ portfolio of a new generation of smart buildings that minimize energy usage keeping operational costs to an absolute minimum. EDGE Grand Central will be delivered as the smartest building in Germany thanks to a complex EDGE Technologies platform that includes a state of the art IP backbone and a smart building application. The nine-storey multi-tenant building, designed by Berlin architects Bolwin Wulf Architekten Partnerschaft, will provide approximately 22,600 sqm of flexible floor space and about 80 parking places. BAM Deutschland has started the construction activities and expects to deliver the project to EDGE Technologies in spring 2020.
The building will be part of Europacity, Berlin’s newest urban quarter – an area of 61 hectares concentrated around Berlin’s primary transportation hub, Berlin Hauptbahnhof – centrally located, and close to key political and cultural institutions. By choosing locations with excellent public transportation and sufficient public facilities at walking distance, EDGE Technologies actively promotes sustainable mobility. Following a strict sustainability strategy, EDGE Grand Central has already been pre-certified Platinum by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and is also the first building in Germany to achieve Gold level Core & Shell Precertification in accordance with the WELL Building Standard for well-being.
