Hemel Hempstead, 16 August 2016 - Construction work has completed on the new Weston College Academy building which will be the home of the North Somerset Enterprise and Technology College (NSETC).
BAM Construction has completed work on the £12 million, three-storey campus at the Junction 21 Enterprise Area in Weston-super-Mare on time and budget. The 69,000 sq ft building will accommodate 700 students when it opens in September 2016 and features a purpose-built science floor, complete with super-labs and a terrace where students can conduct outdoor experiments. It also has technology and enterprise spaces, an all-weather sports pitch, a canteen, a library and a lecture theatre.
NSETC is a specialist science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) college which is part of the Inspirational Futures Trust, a multi-academy trust sponsored by the Weston College Group.
Dr Paul Phillips, principal and chief executive of the Weston College Group, said: ‘Weston College Academy will offer a cutting-edge educational experience for many students across the Weston College Group from September, and it is fantastic to see this state-of-the-art facility has been completed to schedule. This campus is the first of its kind to be built within an Enterprise Zone and we are very much looking forward to seeing it officially open in September, ready to prepare some of the brightest young people in the South West for 21st century working.’
Rob Shipp, project manager for BAM Construction, said: ‘We’ve had many technical challenges to create these ultra-modern learning facilities, but we have overcome them, together with the blustery wind here, and I’m sure that teachers and students will be pleased with their exciting new home.’
BAM is also behind Ilfracombe Academy and the University of the West of England’s Enterprise Zone.
