(Press release Windwheel Corporation:) Rotterdam, the Netherlands, 14 January 2016 - Eleven companies and research institutes have joined forces to start an innovation program for the development of the Dutch Windwheel, a 174 meter high icon to be built in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam. AM and BAM, Deltares, Dura Vermeer, ECN, Eneco, InnovationQuarter, Mammoet, SPIE, TNO and the Windwheel Corporation agreed on the program on Thursday, January 14th. These organizations will work together to ‘build the next economy today' and accelerate a transition to a clean, digital economy.
The aim of the program is to develop, combine and scale all kinds of promising technological and technical innovations at the nexus of water, energy, technology and building technology. Possibilities will be researched for local energy production (including the EWICON technology, solar and residual heat, and heat exchange), the water system, the development of a smart grid, the use of materials as well as technologies to enhance the experience and attraction value of the Dutch Windwheel and its environment.
The collaborating organizations will test and develop in advance all relevant innovations to be applied in the Dutch Windwheel. For the physical development they are looking at the Merwe Vier harbor of Rotterdam, an area that will be developed over the coming years. The companies and research institutions aim to collaborate with all levels of government on this challenge: the municipality of Rotterdam, the Province of South Holland, Rotterdam The Hague Metropolitan Area and the national government. They have invited public parties to work with them on a roadmap as the basis for the first quarter of 2016, when the innovation program will take shape.
The Dutch Wind Wheel is an iconic building, attraction, hotel, residence and energy generator. This game changer for sustainable development is an international showcase for Dutch Design & Innovation.
The Dutch Windwheel will become the attraction of the architectural capital of the Netherlands, the world port city of Rotterdam. It adds a unique landmark to the city, making the skyline even more spectacular. The inner real estate ring will boast a hotel and apartments. In the outer ring, 40 cabins will offer visitors spectacular views of the city from 174 meters high, combined with an underwater experience telling the story of Dutch water management. Moreover, it is an energy generator. The EWICON technique will convert wind to electricity, without moving parts. Combined with energy from the sun and biomass, the Dutch Wind Wheel is an unprecedented urban energy generating building.
The Dutch Windwheel is the icon of the future. It has an unparalleled design that makes excellent use of energy and experience. It is designed for continuous innovation and reuse, and built with materials from the Rotterdam region. The Dutch Windwheel is an accelerator for technical and technological innovations in the fields of renewable energy and experience. It must be a dynamic building that is upgradable after it is built. It thereby sets a new standard in the field of sustainable development and serves as a showcase for climate architecture and smart city development.
