Companies make their environmental and social impact known

(Press release Leaders for Nature:) 13 February 2014 - A coalition of thirteen large Dutch companies is taking steps to make their environmental and social impact visible, with the help of civil society organizations. This agreement was made today in a Green Deal with the Dutch government.

The Green Deal ‘Working together for transparency of natural and social capital’ is an initiative of IUCN NL, CSR Netherlands and True Price. The Dutch Ministery of Economics is a partner in the deal. De agreement was signed on Thursday at the IUCN NL Leaders for Nature Forum, an annual sustainability event for large corporations. The companies AkzoNobel, ARCADIS, BAM, Deloitte, DSM, EY, FMO, Interface, Heijmans, KPMG, Philips, PwC and Thermaflex are participating in the Green Deal. The NBA (The Netherlands Institute of Chartered Accountants) and VBDO (The Dutch Association of Investors for Sustainable Development) have also signed the agreement.

Transparency

As part of the Green Deal, companies will map their environmental and social impact, monetize these impacts and report about them in their annual reports. This creates a more complete picture of the company’s performance. This transparency is a major step towards a green and sustainable economy, that values the wellbeing of people.

Action programme

The participants have agreed that they will execute an action plan in 2014 and 2015 that will center around developing and sharing knowledge on transparency of natural and social capital. Where possible, joint project will be initiated.
