BAM completes quay wall for Limbe Shipyard in Cameroon

Bunnik, the Netherlands, 6 November 2014 – BAM International, the operating company of Royal BAM Group active outside of Europe, has completed the quay wall for Cameroon Shipyard and Industrial Engineering Ltd (CNIC) at Limbe.

The first 150 metres were already completed in July, which CNIC started using immediately. Now that the last 170 metres have been finished, Limbe Shipyard is fully operational as of 1 November, which gives the region’s economy a huge boost.

The design and construct contract had a value of €29 million. The shipyard is situated 80 kilometres north of Douala, Cameroon’s main commercial city.

The 320-metres long quay wall consists of an underwater concrete foundation with 55-tonne blocks on top. In a water depth of twelve to eighteen metres a total number of 1,369 blocks have been installed.

Sister company BAM Infraconsult was responsible for the design of the quay wall.
