CIRIA announces new Chairman

(Press release CIRIA, the construction industry research and information association:) London, July 2012 - CIRIA is delighted to welcome David Belsham, Director, BAM Nuttall, as Chairman of the Executive Board. He succeeds Peter Gammie, former CEO of Halcrow, who has served for five years and has retired.

David joined BAM Nuttall in 1972 and has been an Executive Director for the last ten years, where he has held particular responsibility for their rail work nationally, and business units and projects in the North of the UK. Away from contracting, David has multiple external roles including Chairman of the Institution of Civil Engineers Northern Counties local association and being involved in Research and Development through the Defra/Environment Agency R&D theme advisory group.

At a time when the UK, more than ever, needs to deliver high quality Infrastructure works to economic prices and to programme, David is firmly of the view that the excellent work done by CIRIA supports this requirement.

We also welcome Dr John Connaughton as a Non Executive Director. John is currently Professor of Sustainable Construction at University of Reading and former Head of Davis Langdon's knowledge team in Europe where he played a leading role in the development of the firm's management consulting arm. John was formerly CIRIA’s Council chair.

CIRIA Chief Executive, Bill Healy said: ‘I look forward to working with David and John and take this opportunity to thank Peter Gammie for his support of CIRIA over the years, and particularly for his guidance over the last five years as Chairman of CIRIA’s Executive Board.’
