Kill, Co. Kildare, Ireland, 15 February 2012 - Mr Michael Ring TD, Minister of State with responsibility for Tourism and Sport, officiated at the sod turning ceremony for the long awaited Ballybofey Stranorlar Leisure Centre at the Finn Valley AC grounds on Thursday 9 February last.
BAM will shortly commence the construction of the 2,500 m2 leisure centre adjoining Finn Valley Athletics Club, while maintaining the existing facility in operation. The main elements of the works include: a new pool hall and changing facilities (the pool hall will have a 25 metre, five lane swimming pool), a children’s pool, a plunge pool, and a sauna and steam room, a new reception area and control point together with a general office and a family viewing/social area. The works will also include the reallocation of the gym within the existing building, while protecting its structure and the re-alignment of the existing Railway Road and diversion of services.
Mr Theo Cullinane, CEO of BAM Contractors, in welcoming the commencement of the contract, said: ‘BAM is very pleased to be involved in this much needed project for the North West, and which will further enhance the strong sporting tradition of the local community.’
This €4.7 million state of the art facility is due for completion in July 2013.
