Two stadium contracts for BAM Deutschland

Bunnik, The Netherlands, 11 August 2009 – BAM Deutschland AG (Royal BAM Group’s German operating company, which specialises in non-residential projects) has won contracts for the construction of the Coface Arena in Mainz and the renovation and upgrading of the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart. The combined contract value for the two projects comes to over €70 million.

HBM Stadien- und Sportstättenbau, a subsidiary of BAM Deutschland, is building a football stadium with a capacity of 33,500 for first division club FSV Mainz 05. The exterior of the Coface Arena – designed by agn Niederberghaus & Partner GmbH of Ibbenbüren – is dominated by the impressive red goalposts that frame the outside of each stand. The Mainz stadium will be completed in early 2011 following a construction period of eighteen months. The contract value is in excess of €44 million.

The Mercedes-Benz Arena – home to Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart – is being transformed into a modern stadium by BAM Deutschland for developer Stadion Neckar Park GmbH. It was originally built in 1933 and had a major renovation during the late eighties and early nineties. The contract includes a new south-eastern stand, known as the ‘Untertürkheimer Kurve’. The project was designed by asp Architekten Stuttgart and it also includes a 2,000-capacity sports centre and landscaping. The contract value is €28 million. BAM Deutschland expects to complete the stadium in the spring of 2011.
