Bunnik, The Netherlands, 7 August 2009 - Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau - the German tunnel specialist of Royal BAM Group nv - has won a contract (in joint venture with Berger Bau and Bauer Spezialtiefbau) for the construction of the south-western part of the central ring road in München. Client is Landeshauptstadt München. The total contract value is €170 million, of which BAM's share is more than €70 million. The construction period is five years. The tunnel is due to be open for traffic in autumn 2015.
The joint venture will construct 2.6 kilometre tunnel using the cover-and-cut or top-down method (Deckelbauweise). The walls and the tunnel ceiling will be concreted and then the underlying soil will be removed. The tunnel will be built in an open trench over a length of 400 metres. At the Luise-Kiesselbach-Platz - halfway along the route - the tunnel will be constructed in two levels to form an underground connection between the ring road and the motorway A 95 to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
