Gouda, 8 July 2009 - The concrete engineering work on the construction of the BAVIRO waste-to-energy plant for SITA ReEnergy in Roosendaal has reached its high(est) point. Within the space of two weeks, the first phase of the sliding formwork has been raised from -5 meters to almost +35 meters. The BAM Civiel/Von Roll Inova consortium is responsible as the contractor for the complete turn-key erection of the plant.
Construction using sliding formwork is a continuous, 24/7 activity in which the reinforcement is braided, recesses and infill sections are made, concrete is poured, the formwork is pressed upward using hydraulic jacks and the poured concrete is finished. This can be done at a speed of approximately 2.5 meters per 24 hours using this process. The concrete composition required to achieve this rate was evaluated in consultation with concrete technologists.
The construction of BAVIRO signifies an increase in SITA ReEnergy&'s waste processing capacity. The new plant will be able to process 290,000 tons of waste and generate 275,000 MWh of electricity a year. The capacity of this high-efficiency plant is five times that of the existing incineration plant. With BAVIRO, waste processing company SITA ReEnergy is investing in the production of sustainable energy from waste. The energy generated from waste can provide electricity to over 70,000 households. Forty-eight percent of the electricity produced by the BAVIRO plant qualifies as green energy.
