Bunnik, The Netherlands, 10 June 2009 - Isala Clinics has awarded a contract to the D2B Consortium led by BAM Utiliteitsbouw for the construction of a new hospital in Zwolle, the Netherlands. The construction agreement was recently signed by Marjanne Sint, chairman of the Executive Board of Isala Clinics, and Henk Bol, managing director of BAM Utiliteitsbouw. The construction of the new hospital is valued at approximately €210 million (exclusive of VAT).
Consortium partners are BAM Utiliteitsbouw and four M&E specialists, i.e. BAM Techniek, Unica Installatietechniek, Kropman Installatietechniek and Croon Elektrotechniek. The contract is based on an 'Engineering & Build' agreement, whereby the consortium assumes responsibility for the architectural and constructional development of the design and for construction.
With a surface area of approximately 108,000 m2, the new Isala Clinics will constitute one of the largest non-university hospitals in the Netherlands. The complex includes space for offices, research and treatment facilities, nursing wards, laboratories and other functions spread out over four buildings.
The new buildings will be constructed using an organic building style in which the human dimension forms the basic starting point. The Isala Clinics want to promote the well-being of patients, visitors and employees through the use of soft colours, natural materials and a great deal of green. The Isala Clinics were designed by AMI (Architecten Maatschap Isala), a partnership formed by Alberts, Van Huut & partners BV, architectenbureau Alberts and Van Huut BV and a/d Amstel architecten.
BAM Utiliteitsbouw will start construction in September 2009. The Consortium is expected to complete the new Isala Clinics in 2013. 700 employees will be involved in the project at the height of construction.
