BAM consortium preferred bidder for first Swiss PPP project: 'Überbauung Zeughausareal Burgdorf'

Bunnik, The Netherlands, 9 October 2009 - Canton Berne has appointed BAM Deutschland AG and Marti Generalunternehmung AG (in consortium with BAM PPP) as preferred bidder for its PPP project Zeughausareal Burgdorf. Burgdorf is situated east of Berne in the Emmental, Switzerland. The project is the first Public Private Partnership project in Switzerland which is carried out based on international project finance standards. The project encompasses the demolition of the old buildings, as well as planning, financing, construction and operation of the new 'Zeughausareal'. This will include three planning units, a prison (110 beds), a street inspection office including an operation center and finally an administration center. The total area of the new 'Zeughausareal' is about 30,000 m².

Financial close will be reached in November 2009. The construction phase is set for two and a half years. After completion in March 2012, Hälg Facility Management AG will operate the new areal. The operations will be carried out for a period of 25 years. Canton Berne has reserved the right to extend the operation phase for additional five years.

The debt funding will be provided by a bank consortium comprising among others NIBC and lead by UBS.
